How often should gutters be cleaned?

Seasonal advice for preventing blockages, leaks and costly water damage.

Most homes benefit from having gutters checked at least once a year. Properties near trees, older houses and homes with known overflow issues may need more frequent attention.

Blocked gutters can cause rainwater to overflow onto brickwork, fascia boards, soffits and paths. Over time this can contribute to staining, damp patches and avoidable repair work.

Autumn and early winter are often the best times to arrange gutter cleaning, especially once leaves have fallen. A spring check can also be useful after storms and heavy rain.
